Matter Student Task One - The eye and vision How do the structures in our eye process light to make images that we can see?
The structures in our eyes process light by first making the cones and rods process the colour and light. Next it sends them to the brain Make a new heading - 'Can you trust your senses?' on your student page.
Can you trust your senses?
1. Where does the most bending of the light occur in the eye? The most blending of the light occurs when you look at things so you use your rods and cones for it
2. Describe how the lens works It works by making things magnified and unmagnified
3. Why do we squint when exposed to bright light? We squint when exposed to bright light because the pupil gets smaller and makes not much light come in
4. Which parts of the eye are involved in focusing?
The parts of the eye involved in focusing are the rods, lens and pupil
5. Discuss the implications of losing one eye? The implications of losing an eye are you have less good vision, and also you can get infections.
Student task 2
Visual Imparement- Visual imparement is where someone is blind, near sighted or far sighted. This means they either cant see objects far away, close up or at all. People with these usually wear glasses or contacts
Glasses- I know a lot of people who wear glasses and contacts. These help by letting them see better than normal. Also blind people wear glasses too so they can damage their eyes more.
Solutions- There are other solutions like laser surgery where they use a laser, coontacts or glasses or a new type of eye they are creating for blind people
Describe 2- Two visual imparements are short sightedness where people cant see thing close to them and long sightedness where people cant see things far away from them
Sollutions- Solutions are theyt same for both of these- get glasses or contacts. There can be different ones for each problem. Student task four
Research an animal that has unsual senses. Include a picture Describe which sense are developed in a special way How do they work - how does the animal use them? Are any of the animal's senses UNDERDEVELOPED? Why do you think this is? Present all this on your student page.
The bat
The bat has a special sense called echolocation. This sense allows the bats, which are blind to find where their food which is normally insects such as crickets and dragonflies. The way that this sense works is that the sonic waves that the bat emits hit the prey that it is chasing, bounces back and the bat can tell where its prey is.
The bats sense that is underdeveloped is its sight because the bat is blind. I dont really know why this is but it is just blind which seems to have given it its extra sense.
